Chairman declares Peterborough United star set to remain after Championship links in chaotic summer window

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has said that he is expecting star man Marcus Maddison to remain with the League One side after a chaotic summer transfer window.

Peterborough United star Marcus Maddison is expected to stay at London Road beyond the end of this transfer window, chairman and co-owner Darragh MacAnthony believes.

MacAnthony tweeted his thoughts on Maddison’s future last night on Twitter when asked about the star’s future by a fan, saying:

The playmaker was transfer listed at the end of last season after it was agreed he would be allowed to leave if Posh failed to win promotion last season. Posh fans spent last season wondering when they would be seeing the back of their star man.

However, despite Summer interest from multiple Championship sides including Leeds UnitedDerby CountyBlackburn RoversWest Brom, Aston Villa and Reading, a move failed to materialize and Maddison remained at London Road for another season.

At the start of the League One season, the playmaker was nowhere near peak fitness and was being kept out of the team by Siriki Dembele and Joe Ward.

Since then, Maddison has been working hard to full fitness and into the starting eleven – and he has been successful. The 25-year-old has made 25 appearances this season, keeping up his impressive assist record with another 14 already this season.

Posh fans are excited to see Maddison link up with Lee Tomlin for the rest of the season. They played alongside each other in yesterday’s 2-1 win over Rochdale, with Tomlin picking up a goal and Maddison being considered as man of the match, despite it being awarded to defender Ryan Tafazolli.
