Peterborough United agree loan deal for highly rated Fleetwood Town midfielder

Peterborough United have completed the loan signing of midfielder Kyle Dempsey from League One side Fleetwood Town, the club announced on Monday.

Fleetwood Town midfielder Kyle Dempsey has joined League One Play-Off hopefuls Peterborough United on loan for the remainder of the season, the club announced this morning.

Dempsey has been a mainstay in the Fleetwood Town side since joining from Huddersfield Town, but has fallen out of favour under Joey Barton throughout the first half of this season. Keen to bring in reinforcements for the remainder of the season, Peterborough United manager Steve Evans has pounced to bring in the 23-year-old for the rest of the season.

The midfielder joined The Cod Army on loan for the 2016/17 season after playing a bit-part role for Huddersfield in the 2015/16 season, where he made 24 appearances in all competitions.

Dempsey impressed at Fleetwood in his 46 appearances, proving himself enough to seal a permanent deal in the summer of 2017. Under Uwe Rosler and John Sheridan, the former Carlisle United youngster played in every League One game apart from one.

However, under Joey Barton, Dempsey has fallen down the pecking order at Highbury Stadium. The midfielder has played just 14 league games this season, with the majority of those coming off the bench.

Posh have wasted no time in bringing in new faces, with Dempsey becoming the third loan signing after Daniel Rafferty and Ben White joined last week.

The midfielder spoke to the club website upon the announcement, saying:

“It is a good opportunity for me to come to a club that is challenging at the top of the division, a division that I know well.

“I heard about the interest through my agent and as soon as the club Peterborough were mentioned, it was a move that I wanted to happen. I don’t know any of the lads here but that can sometimes happen when you move to a new club, I am looking forward to getting to know them this week.

“I would describe myself as a box-to-box midfielder, I like to get forward and create and score goals and that is what I hope I can bring to the club. I am an energetic player, I like to get up and down and I hope I can help the club with a promotion push because the club are in a good position.

“It is down to me this week to impress the management and show what I can do and hopefully get into the team for Saturday’s game with Rochdale. I can then try and impress the home supporters and show them what I am all about.”
